Now for something I’m very excited about!
“Power in Time” was the first whole book I ever beta read. It was an experience! There were so many fun things about the story – characters who were complicated and likable, an intriguing setting that really drew me in, a premise that was mind-blowing… And a pet tiger cub.
It’s probably the tiger cub (Snowy) that was my favorite aspect of the book, to be honest… 😉
WELL!
Now the book is officially out into the world, and all can plunge into the fantastical, sci-fi, time-traveling adventure.
(Confession: I was supposed to post this earlier, but forgot to look at the email. So many apologies!)
Erudessa writes in multiple genres, but specializes in fantasy and historical fiction. She posts about lifestyle, travel and so much more on her blog at http://www.erudessagentian.com.
Erudessa Gentian has been part of my local community for a long time. We lived on opposite sides of the city, but I always enjoyed getting to listen to the music she created with her band, the Singing Pilgrims, and hanging out in the same groups. But it was only when she married and moved to the other side of the world that I really started to get to know her as an author and an encouraging, positive presence.
So I’m very pleased to present this interview!
Thank you for having me, Abigail!
Q 1: Where did you get the idea for this book? (like – what stories inspired it? What was the primary influence in shaping it? that kind of thing)
A: The original inspiration came from a game night with friends. At some point, we started throwing around story ideas. I mainly remember there was a girl with superpowers (namely the ability to manipulate electricity), and a tiger as a sidekick. How could I not do something with that? The original version of Larkspur, the main character, ended up being a blend of me and who I wished I could be. And the story kept evolving from there.
Q 2: What is your favorite part of this book? A particular scene and/or character and/or theme?
A: Oh no, the dreaded “favorite” question! Haha. In all honesty, I have a hard time picking one favorite of anything…but Snowy, the white tiger is always a safe bet! I’ve always been fascinated by heterochromia (different colored eyes – which, sadly, I do not have), and really wanted to have a character with it. I also love that the bio-bots ended up changing Lark’s eye colors, so we’ll see more of that in book 2 when the Shield Unit begins to form. I’m pretty happy with the scene where Lark discovers what happened to her eyes. While most people are envious of her sapphire blue and silver eyes, they were hard for Lark to get used to because…of reasons that you’ll find out in the book…hehe. It was the first emotional scene I liked right away, and changed very little during the edits.
Q 3: How do you want this book to impact readers?
A: First, I hope I’ve created a world you can get lost in, love, and just enjoy. But I also hope it gets you thinking. There are some interesting things that happen: family drama, learning how to grow into a good leader, and making hard choices. I hope that my stories present life lessons in a way that you can both enjoy and learn from.
Q 4: Silly one: If you could have one character from your current favorite show/movie/book show up in the world of Power In Time, who would it be and how would they react?
A: Ack, another favorite question! Hmm. I’ve been rewatching the tv series The Librarians. If Flynn showed up in Evren, it probably wouldn’t even phase him that much. He’s seen some pretty weird things. And at least here they aren’t any alien races… He’d probably end up teaming with Lark and her gang, and become besties with Joshua, the scientific genius.
Q 5: What are your plans for the future of the Kynaston Saga?
A: Ooh…I’ve got to be careful here because, Spoilers…
Let’s see. Epoch 1 leaves off with some questions answered, but some even bigger ones revealed. So Epoch 2 will expand the universe even more. By the end of the saga, we’ll have several planets involved in the intrigue, as Lark leads the Shield Unit in an explosive defense of all Evren.
Right now, there are plans for three books. But who knows, there might be more if the gang refuses to go quietly.
Treasure Hunt Letter 4: W
